I am Adam and I am the International Student Worker at Widcombe Baptist church in association with a Christian organisation called Friends International. I came to Bath for my undergraduate degree in the year 2000 and completed my PhD in mathematics in 2009.
I started doing volunteer work with international students in 2003 at the University Globe Cafe and have been involved in Cafe International since coming back to Bath from a gap year in 2005. It has been amazing to meet so many people from all over the world and make good friendships with them. Some of the friends I have made from Cafe I hope to keep in contact with for many years to come, despite the fact they now live the other side of the world again!
Cafe International also provides a great opportunity to explore what Christianity is all about. I started looking into Christianity in my second year of University after watching the lives of a couple of Christian friends and being challenged by the difference I saw in them. Having investigated what the Bible says about God and how much evidence there is to support it's claims, I became convinced that God exists and so I needed to do something about it. Cafe International provides a comfortable environment to ask questions about Christianity. They also put on short talks about the Christian faith at Christmas and Easter which are helpful at explaining what Christianity is about.
I look forward to meeting lots of new people from all over the world again this year at the Cafe.
